Shirley Burridge Obituary

Of Reston, Virginia passed away from complications of Alzheimer's Disease on April 23, 2025. Funeral service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC, at a date to be determined. Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon, VA, and Arlington National Cemetery staff will be handling the funeral arrangements. Shirley was born in Westerly, RI, to Arling A. and Alice L. (Miner) Kenyon on November 23, 1935. She went to school at Westerly High School and graduated in 1953. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1958 from the University of Rhode Island. She worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years in medical hospitals and facilities in Boston, San Francisco, Izmir (Turkey), and numerous locations in Northern Virginia. She enjoyed cultivating beautiful flowers in her garden every year which always brought happy and joyful comments from nearby friends and neighbors. Shirley also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially at Christmastime when she baked special tasty holiday treats for neighboring adults and children. Shirley is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lt. Col USAF (Ret.) Charles Wayne Burridge of Reston. Virginia, and daughter Debra J. Coman and Grandson Justin R. Coman, both of Hamilton, VA, and brother-in-law John T. Burridge of East Providence, RI. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis K. Konop of Harvard, MA, nephews Lt. Col US Army (Ret.) David A. Konop of Watertown, NY and Thomas F. Konop of Pelham, NH. Shirley is preceded in death by a son, John C. Burridge, as well as her parents, Arling A. and Alice L. (Miner) Kenyon, brother-in-law Dr. Philip L. Konop, Jr. and Shirley's in-law parents, John M. and Dorothy M. (Pope) Burridge. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the management and staff at the Hunters Woods Trails Edge assisted living facility in Reston, VA.
