Simeon Kriesberg Obituary
Simeon's wisdom, kindness, good judgement, wide-ranging knowledge, and wit were appreciated by all who knew him. Simeon was dedicated to his family and to community service. He had a particular passion for fostering interfaith understanding. Simeon served on the board of the Interfaith Council of Metropolitan Washington for 35 years. He also served in leadership roles with the American Jewish Committee, the Edlavitch D.C. Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, and Washington Hebrew Congregation. He received numerous awards for his service.
Simeon practiced law for 40 years focusing on international trade. His pro bono service included: drafting a constitution for the Kingdom of Nepal; persuading the United States Government to rescind sanctions regulations that barred Iranian dissidents from publishing in the United States; and gaining asylum for a Saudi woman, on the novel grounds that her Muslim beliefs were being oppressed by her abusive husband.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 10 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street NW, Washington, DC 20016. Burial to follow at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, 14321 Comus Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
Family will be observing Shiva on Wednesday and Thursday, 6 p.m., with Minyan services at 7:30 p.m. at the late residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Interfaith Council of Metropolitan Washington (ifcmw.org). Services entrusted to Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care.

I worked with Simeon from 2006 until his retirement. He befriended me as a new member of the firm and was a pleasure to work with. He was an excellent lawyer who guided clients safely through the OFAC thickets. He was missed upon his retirement.

I practiced law with Simeon from 1979 to 1984 and continued to see him for several years when we had joint tickets with Jeff Cunard and my former husband, sponsored by the Washington Performing Arts Society. My condolences to the Kriesberg family!! I was Simeon´s debate coach when he was in high school! Even then Simeon showed the qualities that made him such an outstanding individual! I know he will be greatly missed!
