Stephen Luckey Obituary

Stephen Luckey passed away on November 12, 2025. Steve grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. After serving in Korea in the US Army he earned his Undergraduate Degree at George Washington University and his Masters Degree at American University. Steve worked as a Geodesist for the US Government/NOAA for 30 years, raising his family of four kids with wife Beverly in Rockville, MD before retiring to Viera, Florida.
Steve is well known in the Rockville, MD sports community as a successful youth coach of Baseball, Football and Basketball sports teams. He coached multiple sports teams to championships in the 1970's and 80's and developed the talent of many young players with his calm, disciplined teaching of fundamentals style of coaching. Steve played competitive team basketball into his early 60's and was an accomplished tennis player, playing at high levels of competition into his mid 70's in retirement at his club in Cocoa Beach, FL. He enjoyed working in his yard, reading books, discussing current events and loved sports cars.
His beloved wife Beverly Shultz Luckey preceded him in death in 2011.
Steve is survived by his sister Nancy Laubis of Asheville, NC, daughter Michele Pendergraph (Newton) of Alexandria, VA, son Marty Luckey (Melissa) of Wilmington NC, son Scott Luckey (Belle d.2021) of Phoenix, AZ and Rehobeth Beach, DE, and daughter Melissa Koss of Chantilly, VA, grandchildren Julianne Luckey-Hill(Kevin) of Damascus, MD, Stephen Luckey of Rockville, MD, William Pendergraph of Newport News, VA, and Alex Koss, Jr of Washington, DC.
A graveside burial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, MD.
