Stephen Smith Obituary
On April 10, 2005, STEPHEN JOHN SMITH, of Bethesda, MD. Beloved son of Dr. Frederick P. and Edye Smith; dear brother of Alexander and Scott Smith; loving grandson of Juanita Baione and the late Anthony Baione and Lillian Smith and the late Frederick Smith. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at JOSEPH GAWLER'S SONS, INC., 5130 Wisconsin Ave. at Harrison St., NW, Washington, DC on Thursday, April 14, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower, 5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda, MD 20816 on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 12 Noon. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Sibley Cancer Center, 5255 Loughboro Rd., NW, Washington, DC 20016 or the Landon School in memory of Stephen Smith, 6101 Wilson Lane, Bethesda, MD 20817.

"He's here but not here, he's gone but not gone." Steve will be on our minds this coming weekend, and he will never be forgotten. I knew him briefly, but enough to know how rich his life was. My sympathies are with his family and friends. The world is a lesser place without him.

Dear Smith Family,
I didn't know Steve, but I knew people that were close with him. What saddens me the most is that in a few months, less and less people will be thinking about this tragedy and you are the ones who have to wake up every morning without your beloved son. As a former University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Wolfhound rugby player, who moved around a to some unfamiliar cities, I always found new friends through the game of rugby. I am sure Stephan will find some new ones in heaven.

He was truely a wonderful human being and will be missed by all that can into contact with him. He was always wanting to learn more about being a better rugby player. The great thing was that he took the information he was given and taught it to his fellow team members so that the team would learn from him. Miami Univ. and Miami Rugby was better for having Stephen. I am sorry for your families loss.

Steve and my son, Jimmy Steinberg, were good friends at Miami University. They lived across the street from each other. Steve had been a guest in our home in the Columbus area. We enjoyed spending time with him. I'm originally from the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area, and Steve and I would talk about our mutual home towns.
