We just learned last evening of Sue's passing. We have been frequent customers at AV's for over 40 years and always looked forward to being greeted by her on our arrival. She was a wonderful lady and we will miss her. Our prayers are with the family.

August,John, (August II and Family)

For the almost 20 years that I have been in DC, your "place" has been my favorite. Largely because of your Mother's presence, (and yours, of course). The family environment that your parents both worked so hard to create has lived on through you! I have been honored to know your Mother, to be the recipient many times of her wonderful smile, her laugh and her sense of humor. I know that she will be be missed greatly, but dearly cherished memories will remain alive through all that have known her. Although I am in Vermont, my thoughts are with you all.

Love,

Lynne

As my neighbor, Sue was a very special lady to me. I met her during the fall of 2001, shortly after I moved into the house across the street from hers on Rose Lane. Sue began gently waving to me each morning as she departed for work, while I worked in my flowerbed. The first time I saw her outside of her home, I walked across the street and introduced myself. It was the beginning of a tender friendship I will never forget. On several occassions, I sat with her on the porch of her home while she told me stories of her past. My most precious memory was made during the first winter I lived in Falls Church; we had several inches of snow fall the previous night. My husband and I shoveled our driveway and without any thought, went across the street to shovel Sue's driveway. She came over later that day with tears in her eyes thanking me for helping her. The very next snowfall, before I could lift a shovel, Sue's son, August cleared my driveway with his snowplow.

I was greatly inspired by Sue's personal discipline. At 80 years of age (and beyond,)Sue would go to work several mornings each week. I thought to myself, " Lord, give me her energy; may I be just like her!"

I loved Sue and feel so sad that I was not able to tell her goodbye.I will never be able to look at the house across from mine and not think of her. Love, Rebecca
