Susan Crowley Obituary
Susan Helen Linkroum Crowley, age 85, of Washington, DC, died peacefully at home on November 13, 2025.
Susan was born on September 5, 1940 in Norwalk, Connecticut to Richard and Lynda Dickinson Linkroum. She grew up in the DC area and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School before studying journalism at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania.
Susan began her journalism career working for David Brinkley at the Huntley-Brinkley Report. She went on to freelance for NPR and The Washington Post. She later served as communications director for the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University before launching her own firm, Crowley Communications. Her professional journey ultimately led her to AARP, where she worked as a writer and editor for The Bulletin, retiring in 2009.
In 1964, Susan married Daniel Homer Crowley. Together they built a loving family, raising two daughters, Anne (spouse Michael Hall) and Megan, and later welcoming grandchildren Isaiah, Sam, and Eli and great-grandchild, Angelino.
After Daniel's death in 2013, Susan faced profound loss, yet in characteristic fashion worked diligently to continue building a meaningful and connected life. She nurtured her relationships with friends, family, and her community; participated in many groups (including her beloved book club of 40 years); pursued continuing education classes; generously supported charitable causes; and remained an active member of Bethesda Friends Meeting. A devoted news reader and spirited conversationalist, she loved discussing politics as well as the latest binge-worthy shows.
In addition to her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, Susie will be greatly missed by her brother, eight sisters, sixteen nieces and nephews, a bunch of great-nieces and great-nephews, and all her many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Sidwell Friends Upper School Meeting House.
