Terance Petitt Obituary

Terance "Terry" Jerome Petitt, 70, of Camp Springs, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. Born September 21, 1954, at Fort Hood, Texas, preceded in death by parents Col. (Ret.) Homer Petitt, Jr. and Ada Petitt.
A 1973 graduate of Kaiserslautern High School in Germany, Terry studied criminal justice at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi, joined ROTC, and was commissioned a U.S. Army lieutenant in 1978. He served along the Korean DMZ before embarking on a career spanning more than 30 years in law enforcement, first with the Prince George's County Police Department and later with the Sheriff's Office, retiring in 2014.
Terry, a Tae Kwon Do Black Belt and lifelong Redskins fan, was known for his discipline, humor, and storytelling. He was devoted to his family, never missing milestones of his nieces and nephews, and he shared countless adventures with his partner, Ellyce Green.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Ruby Brunson Ward, and nephew, Billy Rae Ward. Surviving are his partner, Ellyce; siblings, Kim Graham (Charles) and Brian Petitt (Sue); nieces, nephews; extended family; and friends.
A Life Celebration will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Venue 112, Upper Marlboro, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maryland Concerns of Police Survivors (https://mdcops.org).
