Theodore Marcucilli Obituary

Theodore "Ted" J. Marcucilli, Jr. age 91 of Ocean View, DE passed peacefully on July 28, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Ted was born at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY as the fourth son of the late Theodore Marcucilli and Rose Giannitelli Marcucilli. His brothers Armand, Alfred, and Herbert, whom he deeply loved, all preceded him in death.

An excellent student, Ted attended Port Chester High School where he was class president both his junior and senior years and was voted the most popular student. Following his high school graduation in 1950, Ted attended New York University (NYU) earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. He relocated to the Washington, DC area where he was immediately employed by the Department of the Navy (Bureau of Ships/Naval Sea Systems Command) as a Marine Engineer designing naval combat ships.

During his employment with the Department of the Navy, Ted was a member of the Senior Executive Services (SES), the highest ranking a civilian can earn. In 1980 he retired from the Department of the Navy to work in the private sector doing the same things he did for the Navy. For the next 15 years Ted worked for Presearch Inc., Resource Consultants Inc., ANADAC and Graph-Tech where he was a Senior Vice President at each firm.

In 1995, Ted retired from his professional career and moved to South Bethany, DE where he was elected Mayor and worked tirelessly for his hometown. Ted moved to Ocean View, DE in 2005.

Ted is survived by his wife, Judy Marcucilli, who he was with for over 50 years; his son, John Marcucilli and daughter, Sharon Leathers – children from his first marriage to Carolyn Marcucilli and his wonderful granddaughter Jordan Leathers.

As avid travelers, Ted and Judy had a wonderful life together traveling all over the world (Italy multiple times) with Judy's brother Dick, sister-in-law, Betty and friends, Pam and Linda. In addition to traveling, Ted loved cooking, golf and following his beloved New York Yankees and Washington Redskins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the South Coastal Village Volunteers, P.O. Box 1453, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.

A celebration of Ted's life will follow in the fall.
