THERESE MARIE HANDFIELD "Teddy"  
Passed away peacefully with family lovingly present, December 4, 2016. She is survived by daughters, Vicki Handfield and life partner Ed McCool, Peggy Magnanelli and husband Tony, and Joanne Masters and husband John; grandchildren, Shelley Crawford and husband Marcus, and Tony Magnanelli, Jr. and wife Jenny. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kayla Ambush, Jordyn Crawford, and Luke Magnanelli. She will be joining her husband William G. Handfield and son Mark Handfield .Teddy was born on September 28, 1923, in Washingon, DC, the only child of Therese and James Kinsey. She began her acting career in high school, and was the first in her family to attend college at Catholic University. During World War II , she worked as a French translator for the War Department. In college, she was amongst the first to act and tour with the National Players, doing Shakespearean plays with a lead as Lady MacBeth. Teddy also obtained her Master's degree in English and Theatre. She began teaching and directing plays at LaSalle College in Philadelphia when her children were a bit older. Later on, after the family moved to the DC area, Teddy taught and directed at Catholic University for many years; she also directed at Olney Theatre. In addition, she developed a coaching practice specializing in communication skills. She was an advocate in coaching professional women to help them speak more effectively. She coached attorneys, and radio commentators at WHYY/NPR. Teddy deeply enjoyed her work and was well ahead of her time.Teddy will be greatly missed.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. The prayer service will follow at 8 p.m., at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olney Music Theater, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Road, Olney, MD 20832.Online condolences may be shared atwww.keeneybasford.com
