de SAINT PHALLE THIBAUT de SAINT PHALLE (Age 96) Died quietly in his sleep at Moorings Park, Naples FL on June 16, 2015. He was born on July 23, 1918 in Tuxedo Park to parents Fal and Marie de Saint Phalle. His education included Pomfret School followed by Harvard '39 and Columbia Law School '41. He served in multiple military campaigns during WWII as a Naval intelligence officer in both Europe and China (behind the Japanese lines), where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He later received the French Legion of Honor for his service in French Indochina. Following the war, Thibaut took up residence in New York City first as attorney at Coudert Brothers and corporate turnaround specialist and later as CFO at Becton Dickinson. He was politically active and served as secretary of the Committee for a More Effective Congress (working closely with several well-known Democratic Senators). He later became an investment banker at Dean Witter International and then served as a professor at the Centre d'Etudes Industrielles (IMD) in Geneva Switzerland teaching CEO's of major European companies important corporate strategies in a changing world. He returned to the United States and moved to Washington DC, serving as Director of the US Export Import Bank in the Carter Administration. He was a member of the Metropolitan Club of Washington and formerly of the Jockey Club in Paris. Later, he held the Scholl Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in that city. During this remarkable career, he authored or co-authored seven books including The Dollar Crisis, Trade, Inflation and the Dollar, The Federal Reserve System: An Intentional Mystery, and a book on some of the more interesting people he met during his life entitled Saints, Sinners and Scalawags. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mariana de Saint Phalle; sons, Fal, Pierre and Marc; daughters, Therese and Diane; stepson, John Smith; stepdaughters, Eileen Oakford, Elinor and Helen Smith; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Alix Hall and his first wife, Rosemond Frame de Saint Phalle.
