Thomas Kady Obituary

Thomas Francis Kady, 84, of Middletown, MD, beloved husband of Travis Zeiler Kady for more than 60 years, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, after a cardiac event.

He was born on January 23, 1941, in Wheeling, WV, and spent his youth in Glendale, WV. He attended West Virginia University and George Washington University, where he earned a degree in political science. While in college, he began his 32-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency, which took him to assignments in Vietnam for the last two years of the war, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. After retiring from the CIA, he continued to work under contract for the Agency for many more years, which took him to countries all over the world. In between assignments, he resided in Middletown, MD, where he and Travis have had a home since 1972. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, in-law, and friend. He put family before all else, and he was a true patriot, always loyal to his country, the United States of America.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Virginia (Hasenauer) Kady; brothers John (Patricia) Kady and David (Marion) Kady; and cousins James (JoAnn) McElwee, Mary Frances Roach, and Mary Jane (Lenny) White. He is survived by: his wife, Travis (Zeiler) Kady; his four children, Noah (Nancy) Kady, Pamela (Edward) Gurtis, Nicholas (Colleen) Kady, and Angela (Patrick) Buckler; his seven grandchildren, Nathan Gurtis, Kady Gurtis, Spencer Buckler, Jake Gurtis, Margaret Kady, Aiken Buckler, Erin Kady, Logan Kady, Desmond Kady, and Cassius Kady; three brothers, Martin (Camille) Kady, James (Lynda) Kady, and Kevin (Diane) Kady; cousin Patricia (Charlie) Betts; and Godchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends too numerous to list.

A viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Thompson Harman Funeral Home, 31 E Main St, Middletown, MD. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7321 Burkittsville Rd., Middletown, MD, followed by the burial at Christ Reformed Cemetery, 12 S. Church St. All are welcome to attend a reception at Holy Family Catholic Church directly after the burial, at which time his children will deliver a eulogy. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to an important charity of his, the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences to the family may be made at:

June 19, 2025

I was saddened to see Tom's obituary in the Washington Post. I knew Tom in Saigon and worked closely with him during the mid-late 1980s when we both worked on the Indochina desk. He was a true patriot, an excellent reports officer, and a good friend. Please accept my sincerest condolences.
