Thomas Mulquin Obituary

Mulquin

Thomas Aquinas Mulquin

Thomas Aquinas Mulquin, 59, passed away at home on May 2, 2023 of pancreatic cancer.

Tom graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School (1981) and earned his BSCE from The Catholic University of America in 1987.

Tom spent 35 years working in the private construction industry with Whiting-Turner, Coakley Williams, and Scott Long Construction before joining his alma mater as Senior Director of Capital Projects at the Catholic University of America.

Tom and his family were parishioners at St. Luke's Catholic Church in McLean. His faith was a guiding factor in all aspects of his life and the friends they met in the community became family. Tom was known for his outgoing, effusive personality and zeal for life. He was happiest outdoors and spending time with his family. He loved all sports, especially basketball, and coached St. Luke CYO and McLean Youth basketball for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Karin Schuette Mulquin of McLean; four children, Patrick of Philadelphia, PA, Kelly of Cincinnati, OH, Jack of McLean and Will, of Arlington; his parents Jim and Anna Mae Mulquin of Kensington, MD, three brothers, Dave (Marcia) of Laytonsville, Mike (Kathy) of Bethesda, and Pat of Hermosa Beach, CA; one sister, Molly Abrams (Michael) of Matthews, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Georgetown Preparatory School Chapel, 10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD with a funeral mass immediately following at 11 a.m.

My man, Tom Mulquin. On this anniversary, I´m reminded of the many, many conversations that we used to share about all things UVA. I´m very blessed to still be connected to the family

I'm so sorry to learn this news, and to learn it so late. Tom was my plebe year roommate at the Air Force Academy. He had me in stitches so often with his dry sense of humor that I still remember him that way. You have my condelences. Al McBride

My sympathy goes out to Karin, Patrick (PT), Kelly, Jack, Will, his parents and Aunt Shirley. Tom was the sweetest person. He and Karin made a dynamo family, second to none. The whole neighborhood was their families as well as all the pets of neighbors. When God called for Tom, he was ready. Every time I think of Tom , I think of Karin. Inseparable . Every time I think of the kids, I think Tennis, basketball, sports, competitiveness, mediocre is not in their vocabulary ! Love you all. Miss Tom.

I did some electrical contracting on projects over the years and Tom was the project manager for the general contractor. He was always knowledgeable, honest and fair. His passing is a big loss to the construction industry, and I am very sad he is gone. My deepest sympathy to all his loved one.

I am heartbroken for the Mulquin family, but that photo of Tom made me smile because it is how I will always remember him. "Larger than life" is probably an overused phrase, but it fits Tom perfectly--not only in terms of his physical stature but also in terms of his dynamic personality and impact on the lives of others. Tom was truly one of a kind! It was my privilege to serve as Tom's assistant coach for three memorable and fun-filled basketball seasons. He had a unique talent to teach the fundamentals of the game and to connect with and motivate his players. I admired Tom's passion and zest for life and will always have a special place in my heart for him. May God grant Tom eternal rest and grant the Mulquin family the grace and strength needed to carry on in the face of this great loss.

I am sorry to hear about Tom´s passing. I went to high school with Tom, and I remember his passion for so many things especially basketball, but what I remember most was his kindness to me. He had a sympathetic ear and was fun to be around. My condolences to his entire family.

Tom and I used to speak, at length, about everything related to UVA Athletics. It was a joy to have him and the family come down and go to Football games with me. Tom will be greatly missed. RIP
