Cousin Vernell and Tommy were always special to me. It started in 1957 when as a five year old I was the ring bearer at their wedding, I grew up around Rick who was a little younger but we ended up working across the street from each other for the government as adults. It's the small things endear a person to you, like the time Vernell was fixing breakfast and gave emt the same small portion that she gave little rick. Tommy who knew I was playing high school football on the same team as their next door neighbor spoke up and said, "Vernell, you're not dealing with Rick, you're dealing with B."
I'll always love and cherish those memories.
