VINCENT SUTLIFF Obituary

SUTLIFF VINCENT E. SUTLIFF, JR. (Age 88) Vincent E. Sutliff, Jr. passed away on January 7, 2015, to join his Loving wife of 55 years, Gloria, and other family members and friends in heaven. Vincent leaves behind a legacy of many accomplishments, including his five children and their respective spouses: Joseph (and Barbara), Vincent III (and Dorota), Mary Jo (and James), William (and Katharine), and John Paul, plus eight amazing grandchildren: Vincent IV, Gabrielle, Nicholas, Michael, Julia, Alex, Laurel, and Kristina. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine A. Sutliff (died when Vincent was 18), Vincent E. Sutliff, Sr., Margaret Sutliff (step-mom), and Katharine Ann Donnally (sister), and Marie (sister-died at the age of 2). After graduating from Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, Vincent attended Seminary school for 2 years in Baltimore, MD and was considering joining the priesthood. Shortly thereafter Vincent met Gloria Moreno, had a change of heart, and they were later married on April 23, 1955. For nearly 20 years Vincent assisted his father Vincent E. Sutliff, Sr., Chief Executive Officer for Spencer International Press that distributed encyclopedias for Britannica and the New Book of Knowledge. Vincent and his father had offices in New York, Chicago, and Bethesda, and Vincent became a leading salesman, office manager, and eventually Vice President. In the early 1970s, Vincent transitioned into commercial real estate, and became a successful and innovative agent serving the Baltimore Washington area. Vincent was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend to many people, and was always available when someone needed assistance and support. He was also a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and became a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Lourdes in Bethesda and then later at Our Lady of Grace in Silver Spring. He expected a lot from his family, and he gave a lot in return. He taught us all that family and friends are paramount and to make the most out of each and every day. May the fond memories of his Love and his wisdom live on forever. Friends will be received at PUMPHREY'S BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE FUNERAL HOME, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD on Friday, January 16 from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 7500 Pearl St., Bethesda, MD on Saturday, January 17 at 10 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Vincent was my Godfather, A gentle soul through and through. He proudly kept a picture of me as a newborn in his office for many years. I will never forget his kindness and leadership as a father figure in my life!

I have such fond memories of our childhood on Kerry Rd. Your dad was such a genuine, humble man. May he now rest in peace with your mom.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
