Vivian Moshovitis Kalavritinos

With faith in Christ and hope in the Resurrection, we share news of the repose of Vivian (baptized Vasiliki) Moshovitis Kalavritinos, who peacefully fell asleep in the Lord, surrounded by family, on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025. Vivian was born on July 22, 1926, in Washington DC, to loving parents Kandiana and Aristides Moshovitis, named Mary and Harry upon arrival in the United States. A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Vivian will be remembered for her faith, dignity, elegance, moral compass, and unwavering devotion to her treasured family. She enjoyed her long-term service as a volunteer at the White House and time spent with her family, lifelong friends, and church community.

Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C. Kalavritinos, and her siblings James (Zoe) Moshovitis, and Georgia (Harry) Pistolas. She is survived by her children Alexis (George) Balis, Christina Kalavritinos, and Jack (Adrienne) Kalavritinos grandchildren Peter Balis, Philip Navarro, Joanna (Eric) Williams, John and Mark Kalavritinos; and great-grandchildren Christos and Philippos Williams.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, DC. Prayers and interment will take place immediately afterwards, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. All who loved Vivian are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Vivian Kalavritinos to the Narthex Fund of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, or to the Daughters of Penelope (Hermione Chapter #11), so that compassionate aid may be given, in her name, to mothers and infants in need.
