Raleigh, NC - WALTER STEVEN HASTY, age 54, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at his family's "Summer House" in North Myrtle beach, SC.

Steve, as he was known by family and friends, was born on August 7, 1952 in Fairfax, VA to Walter and Janis Hasty, who were natives of North Carolina. He grew up in Vienna and Mclean, VA, where he graduated from McLean High School. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and studied Appalachian State.

Mr. Hasty was married to Cathy Williamson Hasty on October 10, 1987, in Oxford, NC. Throughout their married years, the Hastys lived in Raleigh. In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his mother, Janis of Great Falls, VA; a sister, Katherine Talamantes and her husband, Bill, their three children, Matthew, Ben, and Julia, and a brother, Hal. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, and a brother, Scott.

For nine years Steve worked for the Independent Weekly of Raleigh, following which he earned a brokerage license and sold real estate. He was a lifelong avid reader, a lover of good films, and had an abiding interest in philosophy, politics, and social issues.

A Memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Michael Catlett and Dr. Thomas Jackson in the sanctuary of the Mclean Baptist Church, Mclean, VA on Saturday, December 9, at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service.
