Warren Burton Obituary
Warren Eugene Burton, age 103, passed away peacefully at his home in Bethesda, Maryland on December 19, 2025 surrounded by family members who lived with him. He was born on May 2, 1922 in Washington, DC to William Herbert Burton and Ethel Stanton Burton. After graduating from Eastern High School, Warren attended the University of Maryland but left his studies to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II and served in the Pacific as a Lieutenant.
He married Elinor Garlem, his high school sweetheart, and was her loving husband for 48 years until her sudden death in 1992. Warren and Elinor had two children, and the family attended St. Paul's Rock Creek Episcopal Church in Washington, DC where he served on the Church Vestry and the Board of Rock Creek Cemetery.
Warren earned an accounting degree from Benjamin Franklin University and went on to become one of the pioneer executives in the computer industry working as CEO and director of publicly held companies. He also worked in the Federal Government as the Deputy Commissioner of Automated Data and Telecommunications Service of the General Services Administration.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor Garlem Burton, his brothers: Russell Burton and William Burton, brothers-in-law: Ernest Garlem and Everett Garlem. Warren is survived by his daughter, Donna Burton Alvarez, his son, Craig Burton (Teresa), his granddaughters: Anne Alvarez (Kevin Wait), Maria Burton (Jon Skladany), Tina Burton (Jonathan Leon), Laura Burton and three great grandchildren: Leo Skladany, Brooke Leon, and Thomas Skladany. They will forever cherish his devotion to family and steadfast presence in their lives.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Rock Creek Episcopal Church in Washington, DC on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Salvation Army.
