WARREN STROTHER Obituary

STROTHER WARREN ROBERT STROTHER, JR. "Sparky" (Age 81) Was born September 11, 1935. He was the beloved son of the late Warren R. Strother, Sr. and Dorothy Diggs Strother. He fought the good fight until the end, passing away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, after battling kidney failure and heart disease. Warren, affectionately known as Sparky, grew up in Falls Church, Virginia where he enjoyed playing baseball with his neighborhood league. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957 on the USS Randolph and USS Forrestal where he was deployed to Guantanamo and the Mediterranean during the Korean Conflict. He received a National Defense Medal for his dedicated service and was honorably discharged in 1957. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency where he worked as an Information Management Officer for 35 years, and he was commonly known as the number one "globe trotter" for his extensive travels around the world. He continued his passions in the private sector, working at Davelle Clothiers for a year before he became an independent contractor for Raytheon until 2016. Despite his arduous dedication to his work and travels, he still had time for tennis, speed biking and leisurely time with his family. Sparky was a beloved husband, loving father, caring brother and incredible friend to many over his 81 years of a life well lived. He is survived by his wife, Judith Strother of Reston, VA; daughter, Jessica Strother of Los Angeles, CA; son, Warren Strother, III of Washington, DC; estranged daughter, Sloan Strother of Maryland and sister, Barbara Deskins of Falls Church, VA. A service to celebrate Warren's life will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Heritage Fellowship Church, 2501 Fox Mill Road, Reston, VA 20191. Visitation will be from 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m., and celebration service from 10 to 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest following the memorial service at 1 p.m., with military honors at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I will remember Sparky for his devilish smile and infectious laugh. He was a good friend, a valued mentor, and a devoted Father to his daugher Jessica. I will miss Sparky and suspect he has tennis players in heaven laughing.

Sparky will truly be missed. While he was my senior in years and experience, he never made me feel like the junior brother. He reached across generational divides to inspire the future. We are better for having known him.

Our condolences to Judy, Jessica and extended family. Sparky has been a friend since Paris days, and his warmth, friendliness and great sense of humor have remained hallmarks of his friendship throughout the years. The world has lost a true spark.

I thought that Sparky had a real kind, energetic spirit. I had the pleasure of playing tennis with him a few times (he was good!), and knew him through Jessica's sporting life. Prayers for him and the family.
