Learning that Wayne Crist had died felt as if the sun had hidden itself behind the deepest, thickest clouds. Wayne was a quiet, gentle man. He listened when you talked to him. He brought a directness to any conversation. When we last saw Wayne on March 18 he seemed to be fighting his disease. His physicians seemed able to delay the end. Thus an even greater shock to learn of his death so very soon after. This is an incalculable loss to Jim and to Wayne's extended family and many friends.

Wayne was one of the nicest people I have ever met in the Copyright Office and in life. He was a joy to work with and had such an inviting and joyful demeanor. He was funny and he cared about people. He had an infinite knowledge of copyright and a keen gift of passing that knowledge to new employees. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to the McKenney and Crist Family. Wayne was a great former colleague. We worked together as technicians in the Motion Pictures Section where he was one of my initial trainers. He later became a great example of how you can move on to other positions and be great in all of them. He was truly a very kind, thoughtful and loving person. He always had great words of encouragement and guidance. Please always treasure your memories because he will be truly missed! I will forever treasure his warming spirit and that nice welcoming smile. I will continue to keep you all in prayer.

I was saddened to read of Wayne's passing, and want to send my sympathies to his family at this difficult time. I can easily imagine how much you will miss him. Wayne and I joined the Copyright Office at about the same time, working in clerical jobs, and (via different paths) ended up as senior examiners in the Visual Arts Section. We worked together on many projects and especially on training new examiners. Wayne was one of the easiest people to work with that I've ever known. He was always friendly and kind and helpful. I wish he could have enjoyed his retirement much longer. I will miss catching up at Office events (and his red vest at Christmas). Again, my condolences.

Wayne was a kind, gentle soul. He was a colleague and a friend. I will treasure the memories of our trip to New York City to represent the Copyright Office and our many conversations about our families and our lives. He loved his family and friends so much. Wayne was a light that burned brightly, but too briefly. He will be missed by many. My condolences to Jim and his entire family.

To Wayne's family & friends: I send my deepest condolences. I am so sad to hear of Wayne's passing. I was a colleague at the Copyright Office. Wayne's gentle demeanor, endless patience, easy smile and very big heart were integral to our office family. He inspired learning - always supportive - and meant so much to all of us.

I am sorry to hear this news and knew of Wayne as a friendly, cordial, outgoing and participatory neighbor in our community of Parkside who always seemed to have dedicated energy for committees he served on and for community meetings. He was a person who cared and put that care into action. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and may the love of family and friends along with fond memories give you strength and comfort.

My deepest condolences to Wayne's family and friends. I will always remember Wayne as the one of the best supervisors, who was patient and took time with me to make sure I understood the Copyright process and material. He was also a good friend and I really enjoyed spending time with him catching up. I will miss him so much.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Wayne was one of my trainers during my first few years at the Copyright Office. Not only was Wayne extremely knowledgeable about Copyright law but he also took the time to make sure that myself and other trainees fully understood the subject matter and learned how to do things the right way. He always had time for us and was dedicated to making sure we succeeded. I feel like I was successful as an examiner largely because of the time Wayne spent teaching me. He will be greatly missed by everyone who he worked with in the US Copyright Office.

My deepest sympathies to Wayne's family and friends. I've known Wayne for many years through our work at the Library of Congress. Being very capable, I watched him rise through the ranks; winding up as team leader in the Visual Arts Division of the Copyright Office. I've never met a more kind and gentle soul. After retirement, he remained active in office functions. He was a regular at all our on and off site get-togethers. He will truly be missed!
