William Barkley Obituary
William Emmett Barkley
William Emmett Barkley entered into eternal glory on February 9, 2023. Emmett was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elaine "Lani" Barkley, and sister Mary Jo Anderson. He was the loving father of Wendy Henninger (Jim) and Tara Barkley (Reza Ghanadan); grandfather of Louis and Paul Henninger, Julien, Gabriel (Rebecca) and Linus Ghanadan. Emmett is also survived by his brother Paul Barkley (Jeanette), brother-in-law John Anderson, and nieces Kelley (Steve) Somerville, Wendy Kay (Greg) Sherbert and Terri Anderson (John Hitchingham). The family invites Emmett's relatives and friends for visitation hours on Sunday, February 26, 4 to 6 p.m., at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda, MD. Funeral service with reception will be held on Monday, February 27, 11 a.m., at Saint Mark Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD. If you wish to do something in Emmett's honour, please donate to a charity of your choice rather than send flowers.

We grieve with you and your families, Wendy and Tara, for the loss of your father. He and your mother will remain as shining stars in our lives and the sources of many fond memories, especially on the Outer Banks.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Emmett Barkley. Emmett and Lani were dear neighbors to my father and mother, Wilfred and Cecile Bergeron for many years. They were kind and generous and always checking on their welfare. After my mother passed in 1995, Emmett and my dad developed a unique relationship, like a "son" looking after his aging "father." I am very grateful that God blessed my parents with such loving neighbors. I live out of state and was comforted by Emmett and Lani´s presence in my father´s life.
