WILLIAM ALLAN BURT
Allan Burt sailed peacefully to his forever home on Monday, October 18, 2021. Al, as everyone called him, was born on February 19, 1941 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Ellen Wilson Burt and William Latane Burt. Al attended Linsly Military Institute, Wheeling, WV, and graduated Salisbury School, Salisbury, Connecticut. He received his bachelor's degree in Aerospace engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and later his MBA from George Mason University. His career in aerospace engineering began at Stanford Research Institute, Palo Alto, California, and later with General Electric Corporation, a subcontractor with Project Apollo with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Cape Canaveral, Florida where he was on various teams for the Apollo launches. Those who took the time to get to know Al loved his creative sense of humor and quirky personality. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, biking, watching airplanes, solving equations, and sailing his beloved Sunfish. He actively enjoyed and was a huge supporter of U.S. National Parks. He will be missed. He is survived by his sister Sydney Goodwin (Bob) and his two children David Burt (Bekki) and Anne Kilbourne (Mark); as well as seven grandchildren: Miles Burt, Owen Burt, Fiona Burt, Gweneth Burt, Max Kilbourne, Charlie Kilbourne, and Wesley Kilbourne. A memorial service will be held in 2022.

My sincere condolences to Al's children and his sister Syd. I have lots of fun memories of my childhood growing up next door to Al and Syd. Many were the times Al would talk us into going up the the top of the water tower behind the Cochrans' house to watch for any unusual aircraft due to fly over...have no idea how he knew this was going to happen, but he was right without fail. He drove us all crazy with his topspin, sidespin and cut drop shots on the neighborhood tennis court. We would scream in frustration and he would chuckle in satisfaction! He and his faithful sidekick Fido were seldom seen apart. None of us was surprised to hear that he was involved in the space program...it seemed to us that he was born for it. He m
