William Harrison Obituary
HARRISON WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON, JR. (Age 92) Passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the age of 92. He was born on December 30, 1916, in Washington, DC to William Henry Harrison, an Inspector in the Metropolitan Police Department, and Edna Rothery Harrison. He is a descendent of the Harrisons of Virginia, who settled the James River in the 1630s and produced two U.S. Presidents and a signer of the Declaration of Independence and Governor of Virginia. Harrison graduated from Western High School and Southeastern University in Washington, DC, earning a BCS, LLB, and LLM. He was a member of the Bar in the District of Columbia and a Certified Public Accountant in Virginia and Texas as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute. He served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In the mid-1930s, Harrison started his career with Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) in Washington D.C. He moved to Texas in 1953 as the Controller with Texas Electric Service Company in Fort Worth. He later moved to Dallas in 1963 to be Executive Vice President with Texas Utilities Company (TXU). He also served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Accounting Officer until his retirement in 1984. Harrison was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Virginia Darcey Harrison, also a native of Washington, DC; a granddaughter, Jamey Elizabeth Hall; and his brothers, Thomas Rothery Harrison and Dr. John Robert Harrison, PhD. He is survived by three children, Pamela Wheatley of Dallas,Texas, Patricia Henderson of Little Rock, Arkansas and William H. Harrison, III of Dallas; son-in-law, Clyde H. Henderson, Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Jerry B. Hall and his wife, Kathy Hall of Midlothian, Virginia, Clyde H. Henderson, III, Esq. of Washington, DC, and Lindsay A. Henderson of Conway, Arkansas; and three great-grandchildren, Katie, Jason, and Patrick Hall of Midlothian, Virginia. Harrison was a member of Schreiber United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest in a graveside service on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Schreiber United Methodist Church or the Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery, where his parents and grandparents are interred.
