WILLIAM ROLLOW Obituary

ROLLOW WILLIAM EDMONSTON ROLLOW November 7, 1927 - February 4, 2021 William Edmonston Rollow, a lifelong resident of the Washington, D.C. area, passed away peacefully at his home on February 4, 2021 with his wife "Ginny" by his side. Mr. Rollow was born on November 7, 1927 in Washington, D.C. to the late Frances Mildred Edmonston Rollow and Jesse Douglas Rollow. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of thirty years, Virginia Giroux-Rollow "Ginny'; his daughters, Nina and Suzanne Rollow, both of Portland, Oregon; and his sons-in-law, Scott Thayer and Dr. Timothy Trussel, also of Portland, Oregon. After graduating from the Landon School in Bethesda, MD and during World War II he enlisted in the US Army and served two years active duty at Los Alamos, New Mexico. Later during college he joined the Air Force reserves and attained the rank of Captain with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI ). Mr. Rollow graduated from Yale University with departmental honors in 1950. Then, in 1953, he graduated from the University of Virginia Law School with a JD degree. He was a trial lawyer for 40 years specializing in oil and natural resource law. After retirement from the practice of law he was appointed by the Supreme Court of Virginia and served as a Hearing Officer (Judge) specializing in cases involving children with disabilities. During the same time he served as CEO and part owner of a mining company located in Montana. Mr. Rollow was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, competitive skeet shooting, and golf. He was a 50 year member of the Chevy Chase Club where he enjoyed dining and playing golf regularly. He was also a lifelong member of the Fairfax Rod and Gun Club where he shot competitive skeet. A wine and food connoisseur, he was a lifelong and active member of the Wine and Food Society of Washington, D.C.. Mr Rollow, a proud conservationist, was also the recipient of the Honorary Kentucky Colonel Award which is the highest honor awarded by the State of Kentucky to individuals for noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to the community, state, or nation. During his lifetime Mr. Rollow made several trips to South Africa where he was eventually made an Honorary Mayor of Johannesburg for his continued efforts in protecting and preserving the elephant population.Bill will be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his Scottish wit, his vast knowledge, and his genteel manner.
