William Squires Obituary

William Harrison Squires, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Bill was born December 9, 1947 in Greenwood, SC to the late Bill and Cornelia Squires. His family moved to Greenville, SC where Bill excelled in sports and school. His family returned to Greenwood where Bill graduated from high school. He graduated from West Point in 1970 and later earned an MBA from the University of South Carolina. While in the Army, Bill was Ranger qualified, a master parachutist, and a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Bill retired from the Army in 1978, and the Army National Guard in 1997. He then worked for the Army National Guard as a civilian in aviation safety, which he retired from in 2017. After exposure to Agent Orange, Bill battled Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's Dementia with notable success during the last 8 years of his life. In 2025, hydrocephalus developed, and Bill lost the battle. Bill is survived by his wife Margaret, their daughter Johanna, her husband Matthew Quander, and their daughter Amina. He is also survived by his siblings Tappey Squires (Patsy), Laura Ann Bierly (Bud), and Connie Decker, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Michael J. Fox Foundation and/or Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon, VA. Bill was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian for over 25 years, where he delighted in their community outreach programs, and served as an usher, elder, and a Stephen's Minister. Trinity will host a memorial service on Saturday, October 25 at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
