William Stahr Obituary

William Earl Stahr passed away on July 26, 2025 at his home in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was born June 3, 1929 to Captain Guy Earl Stahr, USNMC, and Donna Calender Stahr in Portsmouth, Virginia. As a boy, Bill lived in a variety of locations across the country, being the son of a Naval officer. The family settled in Chevy Chase, MD, and Bill became a life-long Montgomery County resident. After graduating from BCC High School, Bill attended the University of Maryland, then earned a Ph.D. in American literature in 1963 from The George Washington University, and was an associate professor of English at The American University. Bill was a devoted husband to his wife, Ann, and devoted father to his son, William Calender, both of whom survive him. After retirement, he enjoyed tennis, running, and spending time with his family. Bill is also survived by nephew Jesse Stahr, and niece Donna Stahr. Services will be held September 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Bethesda. Family and friends are welcome.
