To the Johns Family,
I first time I met Ms. Yvonne was nearly seven years ago. When I met her I noticed her beautiful hair--it was gorgeous and I told her that.

Yvonne was truly a classy lady--She will be missed by all who loved her, dearly.

I am very saddened to hear about the passing of such a dynamic woman and tireless champion for those with Kidney Cancer. I enjoyed working with Yvonne and her kidney foundation. It was a joy to get to know her and feel as if by working alongside, I was also contributing in a small way to the cause. She will be greatly missed.

I would like to extend my condolence to the family. We have all lost a great friend and health warrior. I hope that we can somehow connect and keep the work going that she started through the Yvonne Johns Kidney Found. She has laid an excellent foundation in the Atlanta, D.C. and Maryland areas. We will miss her. We will never forget her. Her spirit will live through all that she touched.

I met Yvonne soon after she began her tenure in the Office of Minority Health. She was in Atlanta and I in Dallas. She was also a soror. You could not meet a kinder person...her voice was always soft and she always had a smile. l

I was saddened to learn of the loss of Yvonne as she was definitely a bring light in the fight for eliminating health disparities. That bright smile and upbeat approach of hers will be missed but much remembered as a spirit that lasts in all of us who knew her.

I am glad I had the opportunity to have lunch with Yvonne a few weeks back. In our conversation she never talked about her personal challenges. Instead she focused on the great work of the Yvonne Johns Kidney Foundation (www.yjkfoundation.org). She certainly lived the Foundation's vision: "Search for the Cure - Never Give Up". Although her physical presence is gone, her spirit lives on in the memories of those who considered her a friend.
