Thomas Rehm Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel Thomas A. Rehm, USA (Ret.) 09/16/29 – 12/19/21 Thomas A. Rehm, 92, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel of Infantry and member of the Senior Executive Service died of heart failure on December 19th at his home of 49 years in Fairfax, Virginia. He leaves his beloved wife, Mary Bailey Rehm of Fairfax; his son, Thomas Rehm, Jr. (Susan); his two daughters, Katherine Rehm and Marguerite Telford (John); three grandchildren, Katherine Estep (Steven), Elizabeth Telford, and Anna Rehm; and great-grandson, Hendrick Thomas Estep. Born in Joliet, Illinois to George and Marguerite Rehm, LTC Rehm graduated from West Point in 1952. After graduating from West Point, he entered the Korean War as a Platoon Leader. Upon his return to the States, he met his wife of 63 years, Mary Bailey. In 1963, he was selected to attend the University of Chicago for a Masters Degree and then teach at West Point. From 1968 to 1969, LTC Rehm served with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. While commanding the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, he was awarded the Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross. After retirement, he joined the AEC and then the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as Assistant to the Executive Director. LTC Rehm served on the Executive Committee for the West Point Class of 1952 and as President of the 2nd Infantry Regiment Association (Vietnam); enjoyed golfing at the ANCC; and was a member of the Society of the First Division. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and remained a devoted Catholic his entire life. Condolences may be made to fairfaxmemorialfuneralhome.com . Col Tom Rehm was a dear friend for the past 40 years. We had both served in Korea and later with the First Division in Vietnam. Quiet, but firm Tom was a joy to work with. I will dearly miss him.
