My sympathies go out to Dave's wife, family and friends. I am a fellow WHS classmate of his and after reading the fine tributes paid to Dave it makes me wish I had known him when we were young.
His family can be proud not only of the fine musical legacy he leaves behind but more importantly the memory of what a kind, caring, loving man Dave was. Leif Salvesen WHS ‘59

Deepest condolences to Mary and Dave's extended family. Dave started trumpet when I started saxophone in 5th grade at Franklin School in Wausau. Frank Brenton was the visiting band teacher. We'd frequently stop at Dave's home on Chicago Ave. to practice. We both shared band experiences in Jr. and Sr. High. Dave joined the Tophatters in his senior year and the trumpet section rocked! A sad loss, indeed, but wonderful memories. I suspect he's already found a heavenly horn. Jim Radloff, 59 Tophatters leader, Eau Clire, WI.

Our sincere sympathy goes to you and your family. I attended Franklin school , junior and sr high with Dave. My mother-in-law taught with him at Schofield, Rothschild and Weston schools as "Toots" KLEIST worked in the library during that time. I shared the obituary and she still remembered Dave. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Farewell Mr. Grade! Music class was always my favorite at Rothschild Elementary! I have fond memories of you pushing your piano from room to room and the excitement when you got your own music room! My children are practicing their own Christmas Program this year and learning, "Come on RIng those Bells" which you taught me so many years ago. Mr Grade put fun in music! Thank you for teaching me to enjoy music! The gift of music you taught me is now being passed on to my own children!
The Grade Family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Thompson Family

My children & I thought the world of him. His love of music, his fun musicals and his genuine, caring nature made him the best music teacher. My children learned many things from him but the most important was to be kind & caring.
