Arlo Pipho Obituary
Arlo was born on March 7, 1940, in Maxfield Township, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Viola (Peters) Pipho. He was raised in rural Tripoli and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1958. Arlo then served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1959 until being honorably discharged in 1965. On August 7, 1960, Arlo was united in marriage to Patricia Abbas at St. John Lutheran Church in Frederika, Iowa. Arlo farmed the family farm his entire life and also worked for John Deere in Waterloo for 30 years.
Arlo was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Readlyn and Acker-Matthias American Legion in Denver, Iowa. He enjoyed his Dalmatian dogs and taking them on "walks" with his Polaris Ranger to check the Wapsie River level. He also enjoyed listening to polka music, attending tractor pulls, fishing, deer hunting, and spending time with friends in his "man cave." He was a member of the PTO Antique Tractor Club and enjoyed working on and restoring his Ford tractors.
Arlo's memory is honored by his four children, Scott (Maria) Pipho of Duluth, Georgia; Stuart (Janna) Pipho of Little Rock, Arkansas; Robyn (Donald) Ryan of Waverly, Iowa; and Ranae (Gabe) Sandholm of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, Mark Pipho, Gleb Pipho, Keith Pipho, Alyssa (Justin) Selby, Kent (Heidi) Pipho, Brittney (Justin) Gaede, Katelin (Chris) Corson, Abby (Zach) Arthur, Quade (Maggie) Ryan, Josiah (Destiny) Ryan, and Sully Sandholm; and nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Arlowe, Penelope, Liam, Amara, Freya, Avery, Tristan, and Brileigh. Arlo was preceded in death by his parents and, most recently, by his wife Patricia on November 11, 2020.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Readlyn from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 21, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Arlo will then be cremated. Memorials may be directed to Arlo's family for later designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com, 319-279-3551.
