Kathaleen Gwen Stoppelmoor of Clarksville, Iowa, passed away on September 26, 2025. She was born on January 20, 1933, in Dumont, Iowa to Grace (Harms) and J Henry Maifield. Kathaleen was a graduate of Dumont High School.
Kathaleen married Vern Stoppelmoor on October 5, 1954. They lived and farmed in Butler County their entire marriage. In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling to visit family in various parts of the country. While wintering in Yuma, Arizona, they visited with friends, went weekly to the Iowa breakfasts, attended music events, and walked. Kathaleen loved spending time with her family. She loved to grow flowers, play cards, sew and make crafts, and painted ceramics with her mom, Omie. She made the best quilts and crocheted afghans for her grandkids. She taught her daughters and grandchildren how to properly go thrifting. She loved chocolate, ice cream, and made the best rhubarb jam for her family. Kathaleen loved everything Christmas!
Kathaleen is survived by her five children, that she raised alongside Vern, on their farm north of Clarksville: Stanley (Deb Mueller) of Clarksville; Cynthia of Seattle, Washington; Cheryl of Heber, Utah; Gary of Garden Grove, California; and Kaye (Tom) Vest of Midlothian, Texas. Kathaleen has eight grandchildren: Kianna (Jim) Hauschildt, Tonya (Aaron) Foster, Cloe McGuire, Daniel Stoppelmoor, Thomas (Tom) Aaron Vest IV (Stephanie) Vest, Jarrett (Crystal) Vest, Tyler (Anna) Vest, and Teagan (Daltyn) Vest. She has 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren (Riley) Whitfield, Andrew Hauschildt, Owen Seitz, Gavin Seitz, Thomas Aaron Vest, V, Eleanor Vest, Katharine Vest, Sophia Vest, Donovan Vest, and Syris Rother. When her family got together in Clarksville, Kathaleen loved watching their Packard Parade, family picnics, and family pictures on "the Rock"-a big boulder on their farm.
Kathaleen was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, on October 13, 2018, after 64 years of marriage. She desperately missed her granddaughter, Stacy, following her death. Kathaleen was also proceeded in death by many friends, her parents, brothers Orville and Eugene, and her sister, Maxine.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be determined. Memorials may be directed to Kathaleen's family and online condolences may be left at
