Mary Kass Obituary
Mary was born on January 10, 1954, at Waverly Municipal Hospital, the daughter of Norman and Irma (Brase) Mattke. She graduated from Waverly High School. She held various jobs, but her favorite was Walmart, because of the people she worked with and friends she made. Mary was united in marriage to Jerry Kass on January 24, 2019, in Hawaii.
Mary found joy in the simple, beautiful things, camping under the stars, dancing to her favorite country songs, casting a line while fishing, baking in the kitchen or spending quiet hours crafting, sewing and gardening. On the weekends you could find her at a hockey game cheering on the Waterloo Blackhawks. Her love for life was contagious, and she filled every room she entered with warmth, humor and kindness.
Above all, Mary cherished her family. She loved her sister, Judy Miller (Dennis Wiley) of Waverly, and her brother, Dennis Mattke (Beth) of Waverly; they always brought a smile to her face. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Jason Myers of Waverly; Michael Myers (Kristen Hutchinson) of Iowa City; and her daughter, Lisa Michels (Philip) of Denver. Her two granddaughters, Kiara and Libby Michels, were the light of her life and the source of endless pride and joy.
Mary has joined her brothers Michael and Ronnie Mattke, her parents Irma and Norman Mattke, and late husband Jim Sevey in heaven.
She loved the holidays and would always make Christmas memorable and Halloween parties fun. Mary will be remembered for her caring heart and infectious smile.
Mary lived a life full of laughter, creativity and deep devotion to her family and friends. Her spirit lives on in the countless memories shared by those who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and continue for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the funeral home with Calvin Corson officiating, Burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

She sure did light up the room when she walked in! One great Lady. I had lost track of her, I see Judy every once in a while at Cliff's. My prayers are with all the family.
