Richard Funk Obituary
Richard Willis Funk was born on May 9, 1938, the son of Willian C. and Bessie Mildred (Scoville) Funk in Algona, Iowa. He was baptized in 1969 at Grace Baptist Church. Dick attended Algona Schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School. He helped area farms and worked for Marshall County. He married Sandra Haynes and the couple later divorced. On August 23, 1979, he was united in marriage to Karen Rae (Hale) Larson in Waverly. He worked for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in December of 1992.
Dick was a member of Janesville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed doing woodworking, working on cars, playing cards and fishing. Dick was always willing to lend a helping hand and volunteered a lot of his time to area projects.
Survivors are his wife, Karen of Janesville; six children, Timothy (Crystal) Funk of Waterloo, Nancy (Mike) Oberhauser of Waterloo, Monte (Rose) Funk of Danville, California, Rick Larson of Waterloo, Nicky (Brian) Trepp of Sealy, Texas and Bryan (Cheri) Larson of Katy, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Janice Covey of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parent; daughter, Sheryl Hanson; son, Tomas Wayne Funk; one granddaughter and two brothers, Jerry and Ronnie Funk.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Janesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Laurie Riley presiding. Burial will follow in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to either Janesville United Methodist Church or to Cancer Society and online condolences can be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
