DONALD PATMAN Obituary

DONALD LEWIS PATMAN Donald Lewis Patman joined his Lord and Savior on December 21, 2024. A lifelong resident of Waxahachie, he was born May 10, 1932 to Maybelle (Dewberry) and Luther John Patman. A kind, generous man, Donald was a leader, a role model, a storyteller, and a jokester. He was a man of God, full of life, and faithful to his family. Donald graduated Waxahachie High School, where he was crowned King in 1949. On October 20, 1950, Donald took Mary Evelyn (Cooke) as his beloved bride and the couple shared two children Steve and Lori, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 68 years devoted to each other before her passing. Donald later married Carole (Austin), with whom he has shared the last four years. Donald made his living as a farmer and rancher, for 74 years, producing cotton, corn, wheat and soybeans. He was also a cattle producer in partnership with his son, Steve. A very savvy businessman, Donald served his community as Texas Farm Bureau President, elected in January 2000. He served in many roles prior, to include secretary-treasurer, membership chairman, cotton commodity chairman, and wheat commodity chairman at the county level. Donald was selected to serve on the USDA Task Force of the "Whole Farm/Ranch Planning Program" Initiative, and contributed in many advisory roles. Through his efforts and diligent hard work, Donald received many awards, and respect from his fellow farmers. You could always find him out in the field, because you couldn't get him out of the field. Donald lived his life true to his craft and trade. Donald's greatest treasure was his family. A devoted husband, and loving father, he relished his role as "Papaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was no place he'd rather be than watching them show their cattle at stock shows around the state. Donald was a long-time member of Brown Street Church of Christ (formerly College Street Church of Christ) where he served as an elder and deacon. He also served as director and chairman of the board of the Christian School of Waxahachie. He leaves a legacy of selflessness always willing to help others, faith, and commitment to his family that will be felt for generations to come. Dearly loved, he will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents Maybelle and Luther Patman; wife Mary Evelyn (Cooke) Patman; and sister Virginia Curry. Donald is survived by his wife Carole Patman; son Steve Patman and wife Joyce; daughter Lori Vantreese; grandchildren Dustin Patman and wife Melinda, Stephanie Cochran and husband Andrew, Chase Patman and wife Ashlee, Lyndsay Cannon, Cecile Vantreese, Erin Allen; great-grandchildren Tatum Marshall, Stevey Marshall, Corbett Cochran, Piper Cochran, Culver Patman, Charlee Patman, Lincoln Patman, Maverick Patman, and Zane Cannon. The family received visitors on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Brown Street Church of Christ. Funeral service followed at 3:00pm.
