Garland Stanton Obituary

Garland "Buck" Stanton Garland Wade "Buck" Stanton, 86, of Five Points passed away on August 4, 2022. He was born on October 12, 1935, to parents Edgar and Annie Stanton. Buck was a loving husband, dad, and Pawpaw. He was very family oriented, he loved for the whole family to be together. He was always willing to help a friend, a member of the family, and even a stranger in need. Buck was the youngest of 8 siblings. He had 5 older sisters, one brother that was 21 years older than he, and one brother who passed away at birth. Buck only completed school to the 10th grade. He went to work after this at Do All Appliances in Waxahachie. After he left Do All's, he went to work for Mars-Monday Quill Funeral Home in Dallas. At the age of 25 he went to Flemmings Paper Mill. He also started classes at El Centro College working toward an electrical engineer degree. Although he never completed the degree, he still went on to become the head Master Electrician at the Paper Mill. He never let the fact that he didn't complete high school or complete his engineering degree hinder his success that he went on the achieve. Buck loved trot-line fishing for catfish, even holding the state record for the largest catfish for a time. His favorite place to be was the family lake house at Lake Fork before it was sold and anywhere else as long as family was with him. He enjoyed the movies of John Wayne and Denzel Washington, watching Gunsmoke, and Listening to the music of Jennifer Nettles as well as Christian and Gospel music. He was active in scouting, civic, boys' baseball and junior chamber of commerce work. He was a Post Advisor for Explorer Post 198. He served on the City Park Board, coached the Lions in a division of boys' baseball incorporated. He held a number of offices in the Jaycees and was assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 198 before organizing the Explorer Post. Buck and his Wife were longtime members of Ellis County Cowboy Church. The last couple of years he enjoyed watching pastor Robert Morris of Gateway Church on TV. The Annual Stanton Family Reunion was very important for him to attend also. Buck married his high school sweetheart Nelma on October 29, 1954, after first seeing her through the window while working at Cressys Five & Dime on the Waxahachie Square. Together they have three boys, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Nelma, sons Mike, Keith and wife Tonya, and Terry and wife Michelle, grandchildren Justin Stanton, Jarret Stanton, Paige Dobbie and husband Taylor, Teri Lenee Stanton, and Tasha Summers and husband Daniel, great-grandchildren Kira, Lucas, Brynlee, Brantley, and Luke, Cousin Johnnie Stanton Oates and numerous nieces and nephews. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Annie Stanton, his five sisters Maddie, Allie, Eloise, Charline, and Christine, and brothers Walter (Bud) and James who passed away at birth. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, from 2 to 3 P.M. at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 3 P.M. at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel.
