HECTOR JIMENEZ

HECTOR JIMENEZ Hector Jimenez was born in Laredo, Texas on October 23, 1942, to Antonio H. and Lidia Ortiz Jimenez. He passed away on October 20, 2024, at his home in Waxahachie, Texas. In Laredo, Hector was known as "Hecky". Later in life he was lovingly known as "Papi" to his grandchildren and pretty much anyone else who knew him. He graduated from Laredo Martin High School where he played basketball and ran track. His favorite sport, however, was baseball and he played semi-pro ball for several years. Throughout his life he loved watching, coaching, playing, and talking baseball. He received a BA in Physical Education and a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from East Texas State University in Commerce, TX. Hector was a college counselor for 38 years at El Centro College in Dallas and Cedar Valley College in Lancaster. Throughout his career he positively impacted and influenced thousands of young people's lives and was loved by students and faculty. Hector was full of life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, always making everyone laugh. Hector enjoyed watching his grandchildren in everything they were a part of - baseball, dance recitals, and other sports and activities. His hobbies also included wood working, spending time at the ranch, and watching old movies and westerns. He was a hard worker and always had a project going. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, son, and brother, and wonderful friend. Strangers and friends alike were drawn to his genuine kindness and joy. His life was a testament to love, faith, generosity, and helping others. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan Young Jimenez; daughter Anna Slaton and her husband Kevin and their children Cade, Dillon, and Ava of Coppell, TX; son David Young Jimenez and his wife Claire and their children Hatch Hector, and Jules of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by brother Humberto "Toto" Jimenez; sisters Hermelinda "Meli" Jimenez; Herminia "Mine" and her husband Rene Alvarez; sister-in-law Elodia Jimenez; uncle Manuel Ortiz, all of Laredo, TX; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Homero Jimenez and sister Hilda Negrete. Though he will be deeply missed here on earth, we can rejoice that we will reunite with him in Heaven. We thank God for Hector's life and the time we shared with him. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A celebration of life service will be held at Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie, TX on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Hector enjoyed supporting several organizations and, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Special Olympics (support.specialolympics.org) or to Christian Care Center Food Pantry at Brown Street Church of Christ, Waxahachie, TX.
