WALTER COX Obituary

WALTER COX, JR. 9/8/1944-9/26/2025 Walter Edgar (Ed/Eddie) Cox, Jr. went to be with his Lord on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the age of 81. He was born in Houston, TX on September 8, 1944 to Walter Edgar Cox, Sr. and Mary Etta (Brashears) Cox. Eddie's dad was a pipeline welder and the family traveled throughout the United States and Canada while he was growing up. In 1955 the family settled in Eastland, TX where he graduated from Eastland High School in 1963. He attended Cisco Junior College before transferring to The University of North Texas where he met Donna Buie, the love of his life. They married in 1967 and after joining the U.S. Navy he and Donna welcomed their son Brent during his time in the Naval service. Upon his discharge in 1971, Eddie returned to the University of North Texas to complete his Bachelor's Degree. He was a highly skilled manufacturing and production engineer throughout his professional career and is a Lifetime Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. One of his lifetime hobbies was collecting and working on vintage cars ranging from the 1920's through the 1970's. He owned numerous cars over the years including 3 Model A Fords, 4 Chevrolets as well and a Dodge, Corvette and a Mustang Fastback. But he loved Oldsmobiles the most, owning 8 of them and becoming the President of the North Texas Oldsmobile Club. After living in Richardson for 20 years, Eddie and Donna moved to Red Oak in 1991 because Eddie had been working on the Super Conducting Super Collider Project for two years. They have been devoted members of Park Meadows Church in Waxahachie for 34 years and a few of Eddie's favorite activities included weekly Sunday School Classes and the monthly Men's Breakfast. The family wishes to sincerely thank the Staff and Caregivers with Three Oaks Hospice for their unfailing kindness and compassionate care for Eddie during the last month of his life. Eddie is survived by Donna, his wife of almost 58 years; his son Brent Cox and son-in-law Neal Eaton of Richardson; his bother Danny and his wife Mariette Cox of Granbury; brother-in-law Jim Atwater of Midland; nephews Cody Cox and Corey Cox (Shannon); nephews Lee Atwater ( Kat) and Chad Atwater ( Melissa ); three nieces; several great nieces and one great nephew; as well as grand dogs Pinto and Poppy. Eddie was predeceased by his Sister Sandra (Cox) Holloway and her husband J.C.; sister-in-law Mary Atwater and sister-in-law Debbie Cox. Services celebrating Eddie's life were held on Thursday October 2, 2025 at Park Meadows Church with Dr. Joe Langley officiated. Pallbearers were Neal Davis, Brad Hays, Sam Leach, Billy Prewitt, Jacky Scott and Charlie Steckman. Visitation was Wednesday October 1, 2025 from 5-7:00 PM at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Meadows Church in Waxahachie or the charity of your choice.
