Brent L. Groomes
October 28, 1955 - December 22, 2025
Brent L. Groomes, 70, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025, at his home following a courageous battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
He was born on October 28, 1955, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of Glen J. and Joanne F. Janes Groomes. Brent graduated from Nevada High School in 1974. He went on to earn his associate's degree from Ellsworth Community College in 1976 and his bachelor's degree from UNI in 1983. He married Monica L. Cooper in 1978; they later divorced. Brent and Donna M. Wohlhuter became engaged in 2020.
Brent worked as an operations supervisor for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in Waterloo. He previously worked as the head supervisor of the Cedar Falls Recreational Center, the director of Independence Parks and Recreation, and a supervisor at Target.
He loved spending his time watching football, wrestling, and baseball. Brent enjoyed rooting for Iowa State, UNI, Cedar Falls High School, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Indianapolis Colts. He found a lot of personal satisfaction in his life-long friendships and serving the less fortunate. He was a former member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls.
Brent is survived by his, fiancée, Donna Wohlhuter of Stewartville, MN; sons, Andrew "Andy" (Dennetta) Groomes, Robert "Robby" (Ally) Groomes, both of Des Moines, and KC Groomes of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Genevieve, Griffin, Ignatius, Bonaventure, and Baby G; sister, Denice Groomes of Indianola; two sisters-in-law, Joni Groomes of Charlotte, NC, and Sandi Groomes of St. Clair, MO; aunts and uncles, Judy (Dick) Bishop, Nancy Groomes, and Ron Janes; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Kevin and Steve Groomes.
Memorial Visitation: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, January 4, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, with a Time of Remembrance at 3:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to the family. Locke at Tower Park is assisting the family, 319-233-3146.
