David Swolley Obituary
David was baptized and confirmed at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church as an adult on August 21, 2021. David graduated from Abraham Lincoln High in 1974 before enlisting in the US Marine Corp in 1974. He served until 1995, receiving an honorable discharge upon retirement after 21 years. He attended classes at Hawkeye Community College after discharge and then worked at International Paper in Waterloo, Iowa beginning in 1997. He volunteered and served offices at the Waterloo VFW Post 1623 from 1996 until his illness disrupted his ability to do so in 2014.
David married Robin Stormer in 1975. The couple had three children. They divorced in 1989. Later, he married Ronda (Hansen) Swolley on June 28, 1998 and helped raised her children as his own.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Lyle Swolley, his sister Shelly Swolley, his sister Judy Swolley Hollinger, brother-in-law Kenneth
Hollinger, niece Christina Swolley, and father-in-law Ronald Hansen, Jr.
David is survived by his wife Ronda Swolley; his children: Jacob Swolley, Brandy (Travis) Schleusner, and Toby Swolley; his step-children Heath (Kim Stowell) Robinson, Kari Hansen, and Jessica "Jessie" (Jesse Mills) Hansen; his grandchildren Mike Swolley, Nikki/Jordan (Adam) Swolley, Shyenne Swolley, Aidan Valentine, Mathew Swolley, and Loretta "Letty" Mills; his siblings: Francis "Bud" (Linda) Swolley Jr, Jerry (Audrey) Swolley, Julie (Jim) Swolley, and Steve (Tootsie) Swolley; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law: Margaret Hansen, and his wife's siblings.
The family met on March 8, 2024, at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. David was then transported to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Adel, Iowa where there was a brief service in the cemetery's Chapel conducted by Father Philip Bempong followed by Military Graveside Rites.
Family requests no flowers. An informal celebration of remembrance will be at the Waterloo VFW Post 1623 on Saturday, March 16, 2024.
