Duane Fischels Obituary
February 27, 1948 - May 30, 2025
Duane Lewis Fischels, 77, of Gilbertville, died Friday, May 30, at MercyOne Waterloo.
He was born February 27, 1948, in Waterloo, the son of Raphael and Winifred Steimel Fischels. He married Debbie Hart on October 6, 1990, in Gilbertville.
Duane served in the Army Reserves and was employed at John Deere until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie of Gilbertville; his daughter, Amy Fischels of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Landon Wolf, Haydon Wolf, and Camden Boyer; his sister, Karen (Arzania Jr.) Williams of Bolingbrook, Ill.; and his sister-in-law, Karen Fischels of Gilbertville.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard Fischels, Jerome Fischels, and Harry Fischels.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 4th, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Full military rites will be conducted at the grave by the Gilbertville American Legion Nugent Demuth Post 714, assisted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 3rd, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 3:30 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday, at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Church or the Bosco System.
