Gary Kienast Obituary

Benbrook, TX - Gary Allen Kienast, 81, of Benbrook, TX passed away at Heart-To-Heart Hospice on Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was born in Carroll, Iowa, on December 3, 1942, first son of Hugo Max Kienast and Adela Emma (Ullerich) Kienast. Gary was raised on the family farm near Elberon, IA and graduated from Dysart High School. He served in the Navy, then worked at, and retired from John Deere in Waterloo, IA. He married Sandra K Johnson in 1968 and to this union one daughter was born, Shana. He enjoyed golf and fishing at Bulls Shoals Lake, AR as well as fishing excursions to far Northern Canada. Upon retirement he and Sandi were full-time RVers for some years and made many, many friends while living in Theodosia, MO, Mission, TX, Red River, NM, Durant, OK, Flint, TX and Benbrook, TX.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, a grandson Kevin Blair and a sister-in-law Joyce Kienast.

He is survived by Sandi, his wife of 56 years; children: Shana (Jay) Anderson of Bellevue, NE, step-sons Scott (LeAnn) Johnson of Fort Worth, TX, Eric Johnson of Orlando, FL, Todd (Ginger) Johnson of Grand Prairie, TX; grandchildren: Anthony Kienast and Christine Blair of NE, Aaron (Megan) Johnson, Morgan (Travis) Gist, Rylee Johnson, Bryn Johnson all of TX, Von Johnson of FL, great-grandchildren: Prescott, Parker, Padgett, Palmer, Cade and Levi, all of TX; two brothers, Jim (Nancy) Kienast of Powderly, TX and Brian Kienast of Prairie du Chien, WI, one beloved aunt, Marilyn Ullerich Johnson of Marion, IA, and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary will be cremated and a private celebration of life held and his ashes spread at his favorite places in TX.
