John Weires Obituary

John J. Weires, 70, a retired firefighter and son of the late Albert O. and Marian C. Weires, died Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024.

Survivors include his girlfriend Jodi Holtzman, Waterloo (her children: Jessica Grapp, Cedar Falls; Cathleen Sweerin (Andrew), Evansdale); children, John Weires, Waterloo; Joy Smith (Glen),Kansas City, MO; Anthony Werkmeister, Iowa Falls; sisters, Sandra Scarbrough (Dennis), Boynton Beach, FL; Teresa Hilbert (James Duffy), Des Moines; Pam Davis (Keith) and 16 grandchildren.

John loved spending time with Jodi. His catholic faith was a high priority for him and he was always a consistent attender of mass. He was very compassionate toward elderly friends and acquaintances and he helped many people over the years as they aged. His mischievous sense of humor and his retelling of funny stories of loved ones will be sorely missed.

There will be a mass service for him at Sacred Heart Church, 627 W Fourth St, Waterloo, IA 50702, on July 30th at 10:30AM.
