Katherine Shields-Ruth, 60, of Waverly, died on February 20, 2026, at her residence in Waverly.

Katherine Carol Shields was born on April 28, 1965, the daughter of Richard and Karen (Ohler) Shields in Charles City, Iowa. She graduated from Nashua-Plainfield High School in 1983, then attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, for two years and then went to UNI for two years graduating with a bachelor's degree in Recreational Management. Kathy worked in Green Mountain at a Care Facility, then at the Bremer County Care Facility, and then dedicated 20-plus years at Country View in Waterloo. On April 27, 2001, she was united in marriage to Dean Curtis Ruth at Heritage United Methodist in Waverly. She then worked at Quality Inn and later at Cobblestone.

She was a member of P.E.O. Kathy enjoyed baking, gardening, flowers, canning jellies and vegetables and loved animals. She was known as an avid water person, and as a jokester. She can be remembered as someone always willing to help others and would just send random gifts to others.

Survivors are her husband, Dean Ruth of Waverly; son, Monty (Jessica) Ruth of Knoxville, Iowa; two daughters, Serena (Andrea) Ruth of Keswick, Iowa and Elizabeth Ruth (Eros Gonzalez) of Nashua; her mother, Karen Shields of Waverly; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Patrick (Diane) Shields of Waverly, and Derik (Kimberly) Shields of Griswold, Iowa. She was preceded in death her father, Richard "Doc" Shields and a brother, Cory Shields.

Kathy has been cremated and a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation in Kathy's name and online condolences can be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
