Kenneth Herbert Harting

November 13, 1954 - October 19, 2025

Kenneth Herbert Harting, 70, Cedar Falls, died Sunday, October 19, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Ken and his twin, Don, were born November 13, 1954, in Waterloo to the late Don C. and Marilyn L. (Wilcox) Harting. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1973 and married the love of his life, Debra Kay Rucker, on September 14, 1974, at Nazareth Lutheran Church. The couple recently celebrated 51 years of marriage and are proud parents to their daughters, Leslie, Kendra, and Halle. Ken owned and operated Ken's Skelly on 1st Street in Cedar Falls until 1980 when he started Dependable Automotive Products, an auto parts distribution company. Ken serviced many dealerships, implements, auto repair and gas stations throughout northeast Iowa for 45 years and just recently had semi-retired. His customers became cherished friends.

Ken was a devoted, loyal, and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He always made sure that his children and grandchildren were cared for often above his own needs. This selfless care for family and his friends will always be remembered and cherished. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, to always help others, be honest in life and business, and do the right thing no matter what.

Watching his grandsons play basketball and baseball brought him great joy, he was so proud of their accomplishments as players and teammates. He loved being outside mowing on his tractor, watching and attending NASCAR races, and fishing.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Debra; daughters, Leslie (Jeremy) Nixon, Kendra (Ted) Sturgill and Halle (Chris) Canfield; grandchildren, Caden, Cason, Emry, Braxton and Beckett; sisters, Susan Golden and Jacque Frink; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Don W. Harting; and nephew, Travis Harting.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October, 26, 2025 from 2 until 4 p.m., with a service at 4 p.m. to celebrate Ken's life at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

The committal service will be at 10 a.m., on Monday, October 27 at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to Ken's family for future charitable donation.
