Larry Gene Ryan

May 30, 1941 - October 19, 2025

Larry Gene Ryan, 84, of Waterloo, died Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his home. He was born May 30, 1941 in Galt, son of James and Marjorie Staton Ryan. Larry graduated from Ventura, Iowa high school in 1958; attended NIACC for two years; and graduated from University of Iowa with BS and MS degrees in 1968.

He married Flora Jane Uhlenberg on July 9, 1983.

He was a child and adolescent clinical psychologist at Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Center for 55 years, retiring in June 2024.

Larry enjoyed traveling and visiting family, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, photography and poetry.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane; son, Lee (Maria) Burleson; daughters, Robin (Tadd) Burleson Ruetenik and Maureen (Allan) Ryan-McGehee; and son, Stephen (Anna) Ryan; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brother, Monte (Candace) Ryan; and faithful Vizsla, Reilley.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Terry Ryan; and Vizslas, Annie and Katie.

Services: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Unity Presbyterian Church, Waterloo with burial at Waterloo Cemetery.

Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Locke on 4th, Waterloo.
