Mary Joan Jermier
June 27, 1932 - November 23, 2025
Mary Joan Jermier, known to all as Joanne, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025 surrounded by her loving family in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Joanne was born June 27, 1932 at her family farm in Charles City, Iowa, to her parents Earl and Marian Loye.
Joanne is survived by her sister, Judy Courtney (Tom) of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Sara Congrove (Tim) of Lake Quivira, Kan.; sons, John of Cape Coral, Fla., Jim (Wendy) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Steve (Lyndsy) Jermier of Norwalk, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Sue Jermier of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandchildren, Spencer, Zack, Chase and Maggie Congrove, Tyler, Hunter, Colton, River, Riley, Ryan, Allison and Sam Jermier; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her and Jersey's dear friends, Jerry and Geraldine Martinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jersey; parents, Earl and Marian Loye; sister, Jean Groesbeck; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale Groesbeck, Mel and Dorothy Shahan, Earl and Kay Zanger, Don Jermier, Mike and Sharon Jermier; and her great-granddaughter, Maeve Congrove.
Joanne's life was guided by her values of integrity, sincerity, loyalty, honesty and faith. Her work ethic and intellect were unmatched. She dreamed of being a nurse and while that dream was never realized, she found fulfillment as a medical transcriptionist. Joanne was proud of her Irish heritage and was a farm girl at heart. She loved cheering on the UNI Panthers and Chicago Cubs. Family always came first. Whether it was family meals, athletic competitions, recitals, baptisms, first communions, graduations and other events that are too many to mention, mom could be counted on. At the center of it all was the love of her life and husband of 73 years, Jersey. While short in stature, she was big on love and selflessness. She was the rock of our family through many moves, wins and losses and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, November 28th at Richardson Funeral Service with a rosary at 3:30 p.m.
