Neal Himschoot Obituary

Neal A. Himschoot, 91, passed away on February 17, 2024 in Traer, Iowa.

Neal was born September 5, 1932 to Adolph and Margaret Himschoot where Neal was later known by many names including Dad, Brother, Papa, Grandpa, "That Guy," and Duke. He married Sylvia Randall before he entered the Navy where he served as an Aircraft Radio Electrician. He and Sylvia had five children and later divorced.

After serving in the Navy, Neal was a proud farmer, rural mail carrier and drove a maintainer for Tama county. He had the cleanest bean fields around because his (grumbling) children helped to walk the fields. People on his mail route knew what time of day it was because Neal always showed up at the same time.

Neal cherished visits with family including Jerry and Carole, and his brother, Bob, and fishing buddies like Rick, Cobby (Bob) and Charlie. He had many interests, including fishing in Minnesota, gardening, playing Pepper, giving rides on the orange tractor to his grandchildren, watching Judge Judy and Big Bang Theory, cheering on the Twins and telling stories of Ol' Three Toes. Neal enjoyed a variety of foods including SPAM, fresh tomatoes from the garden, pockets full of donut holes, clam chowder, full pepper grinders, and who could forget his "Secret Recipe."

Neal was preceded in death by his parents; sister Leah; daughter Cynthia; sons Steven (Jo Ann) and Brian (Deana). Neal is survived by his brother Bob (Ginna) of Las Vegas; daughter Janice of Traer; son Alan of Baudette, Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

They say that you can still hear Ol' Three-Toes scratching on the walls . . .
