BRANDON - Rex D. Stephens, 70, of Brandon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Rex was born on December 24, 1954, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Darrell "Buck" and Judy (Stainbrook) Stephens. He grew up in rural Brandon, Iowa, and graduated from Vinton High School in 1973. He worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, for over twenty-four years. He retired from John Deere in 1998, but continued to work various other jobs over the years.
In 1973, Rex married Mary Erger, and they made their home in Brandon, Iowa. Together they had two children, Eric and Myriah. They later divorced.
Rex later married Cheryl M. (Christen) Mastin on August 29, 1992, in Brandon, Iowa.
He is survived by his mother, Judy Stephens; his wife, Cheryl Stephens; his children, Eric (Amy) Stephens, and Myriah (Adam) Cole; his stepchildren, Wade (Amanda) Mastin, and Mikki (Mark) Warm; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Rex is preceded in death by his father, Darrell "Buck" Stephens, a sister, Kathy Waskow, and a brother, Lanny Stephens.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa.

Cheryl and family. I have no words. I sm so sorry! I've been off a few weeks but I did leave a note on your car one day. I didn't see obit in time or I would have been there! I may just have to look you up. You guys have a special place in my heart!!

We remember his heart of generosity & tremendous sense of humour! We had the privilege of meeting him through Living Water Church in Independence, IA. His tender heart toward God and missions greatly encouraged us. But the last story he told us about "tipping cows" had us in "laughing tears!" We will never forget Rex. Loving condolences to Cheryl and all the family.
