Virginia Remley
September 26, 1930 - July 30, 2025
Virginia Remley, 94, of Shell Rock, Iowa and formerly of Waverly, Iowa, passed away Wednesday evening, July 30, 2025, at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.
Virginia was born on September 26, 1930, the daughter of Lawrence and Agnes (Michels) Roth. She attended elementary Catholic School in Waterloo and then Janesville High School, earning her diploma. On February 14, 1950, Virginia was united in marriage to Paul C. Dittmer. The couple was blessed with four children, Delbert, Roger, Diane and Marvin. Paul passed away in October of 1962. On January 27, 1964, Virginia was united in marriage to Marlowe Remley at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, and was blessed with four more children, Linda, Vicky, David and Pamela. Virginia worked construction beside Marlowe as a finishing carpenter. After nearly 59 years of marriage, Marlowe passed away in January of 2023.
Virginia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly and Denver Square Dancers. She enjoyed camping, trout fishing and making crafts. She made wedding cakes, candy and many of her children's clothing. She also liked crocheting and Swedish weaving. After retiring, Virginia and Marlowe wintered in Arizona.
Virginia is survived by her children, Linda Nizzi of Lanesville, IN, Delbert (Arnetta) Dittmer of Tucson, AZ, Roger (Carolee) Dittmer of Fredericksburg, Vicky (Keith) Bienemann of Waverly, David Remley of Cedar Falls, Pamela (Steve) Sorenson of Edgerton, WI and Marvin (Donell) Dittmer of Waverly; 15 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Lane of Margate, FL; and brother, Melvin Roth of Janesville. She was preceded in death by Paul and Marlowe; her daughter, Diane Dittmer; her parents; a son-in-law, Joseph Nizzi; and siblings, Orville Roth and Bernice Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. Doug Wathier presiding and assisted by grandson, Deacon Jamie Hruza and Dr. Rev. Kristin Wendland. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
