The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, proud Memmaw, and friend, Mabel Nelson Bachelor, of Highland Home, Alabama, formerly of Marthaville, Louisiana. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 1, 2025, surrounded by family and love. Mabel was the heart of our family-a woman whose presence could light up a room just like the twinkling Christmas lights she so adored. To many of her great-grandchildren, she was Christmas. They were convinced she was one of Santa's elves, and honestly, we never tried to convince them otherwise. Christmas season didn't officially begin until Memmaw turned on her lights, and her home would instantly become a cozy haven filled with collected décor, carols, and her famous warm hospitality. A true creative spirit, Mabel loved to crochet and often shared handmade blankets with those she cared about. She also found peace working outside tending to her garden and fish ponds. She was equally devoted to her beloved fish and birds, who she spoiled just as much as her family. Her voice was a true blessing, and she shared it joyfully in the Highland Home Baptist Church choir. Whether she was singing hymns on Sunday morning or humming while she worked in the yard, her song was a comfort to all who knew her.
Mabel's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother, loving sister, and a proud Memmaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her gentle hands and generous heart touched so many lives, and her legacy of kindness, faith, creativity, and joy will live on through us. The family would like to give a special thank-you to her caregiver, Tonya Windham, for her dedicated, loving care. We are also forever grateful to Dr. Tompkins and his staff, along with the compassionate team at Aveanna Hospice, for their support, kindness, and comfort during Mabel's final journey. She is preceded in death by her husband, Everette Bachelor, and is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland Home Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, a cause close to Mabel's heart.
May her light continue to shine in our hearts-and may we carry forward her love for family, her joy for the simple things, and her faith in the One who now holds her close.
Mrs. Bachelor was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Everette Bachelor; parents, Luther and Ailene Nelson; sisters, Mary Leroux, Johnny Johnson, Sybil Gray, Vera Priest, and Janet Price; brothers, Donald Nelson and Ronald Nelson. Jr. and Tonya Bachelor; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Trudy Nelson and Sandy Rameriz; one brother, Dean Nelson; and many extended family members and friends.
