Barbara Giese Obituary

Watertown, WI - Barbara Lynn Giese, 73, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, with her family by her side.

Barb was born on September 24, 1952 to Floyd and Anita (Tietz) Strauss in Watertown. Barb grew up on a farm on the south side of Watertown and always kept that in her heart, often reminiscing of times she spent in the barn and playing with her siblings. She was a 1970 graduate of Watertown High School. On August 9, 1975 she married Richard "Dick" Giese at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

In her younger years Barb enjoyed bowling and playing softball. Barb worked at Johnson Controls in Watertown until she was unable. Her generosity in life knew no bounds from helping out in the school and athletic events when her children were young, to being a faithful blood donor as long as she could, as well as volunteering her time at St. Vincent De Paul in Watertown.

Barb enjoyed watching any and all Wisconsin sports, and traveling while she could. She always told her family and friends "go while you can." She could often be found sitting outside, enjoying a sunny day and fresh air.

Barb was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and big heart touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the proud mother of Kyle and Laci, and the adoring grandmother of four grandchildren, each of whom brought light to her life and carried her strength forward.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her early 40s, Barb faced her illness with remarkable grace, resilience, and quiet determination. Though MS affected her physically, it never dimmed her spirit, her kindness, or her ability to make those around her feel deeply loved.

She is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Giese; son, Kyle (Jill Gillingham) Giese; daughter, Laci (Josh) Cummings all of Watertown; four grandchildren: Addisson, Brycen, Douglas, and Violet; siblings: Carol Wolfer, Duane "Pushy" (Debbie) Strauss, Deb (Tim) Archambeau, Nancy Strauss; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sandy Strauss; brother-in-law, James Wolfer.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Fr. David Drefcinski officiating. Relatives and friends may gather at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at a later date at the parish cemetery. Memorials, if desired, would be appreciated to the National MS Society. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be left at www.HafemeisterFH.com.

The family would like to thank the staff at Park Ridge and Marquardt Health Center who became like family over the years, as well as the staff of Commonheart Hospice for the comfort they provided. We are especially grateful for the moments you made her smile. Additional thanks to the multitude of staff throughout Watertown Regional Medical Center who compassionately cared for Barb during her many visits.
